Hundreds of people work on the Project ONE construction site every day. For all the construction workers, technicians and other employees, changing rooms, yard facilities and other buildings are needed. These are being built by Warsco Units of Genk, which is installing a total of 1,500 units on the ethane cracker site – the largest order ever for the Limburg-based company.
The modular and temporary accommodation will be manufactured at Warsco’s factory in Genk and then transported to the port of Antwerp. Once on site, the units will be stacked and completed. The site will have many different buildings, from changing rooms to canteens and offices. The work has already come a long way and many of the units are already in use.
We are very proud to be doing this job,’ says Marc Warson, CEO of Warsco Units. This is a mega order for us: it is more than our normal annual production. It takes about 10 weeks to deliver a fully operational building. We are delivering a building every two weeks as we have to install a total of 30 buildings, each consisting of 50 elements.
INEOS placed a strong emphasis on the safety and sustainability of the units. Marc Warson: ‘I think this is a very good example of building a petrochemical plant in a sustainable way: by working together, pooling expertise and being innovative.
