Sustainable power supply on the construction site

A construction site as large as Project ONE’s naturally requires a lot of power to keep everything running. While waiting for a permanent connection to the power grid, a temporary power solution was also needed for lighting, substations and offices.

Together with United Rentals, INEOS Project ONE chose an innovative and sustainable solution of modern Stage V generators combined with batteries. Because the battery stores energy, the generator can be used as efficiently as possible.

The combination with battery packs means that the generator has to run less frequently, resulting in lower consumption, fewer emissions, less noise, lower fuel costs and less wear and tear on the generator. Stage V generators are already more environmentally friendly to operate than older models, and this added to the sustainability of the power supply.

Moreover, once Project ONE is connected to the electricity grid, the plant will run entirely on green electricity generated by the wind farms off the Belgian coast. For this purpose, INEOS has concluded power purchase agreements with Eneco (SeaMade wind farm), RWE (Northwester2 wind farm) and Engie (Norther wind farm).
