The Project ONE team recently tested the Plant Operator Digital Simulator (PODS) developed by Technip Energies. This virtual reality tool immerses users in a realistic installation environment.
Operators, engineers, and the operations management team at Project ONE who put on the VR headsets and held the controllers were able to practise procedures, alarms, and critical actions as if they were in the operational ethane cracker.
This has many advantages:
- A realistic and safe training environment
- Faster onboarding of new employees
- Better preparation for complex situations
- Ability to train while the installation is still under construction
The participants were enthusiastic. We are currently investigating the potential of Virtual Reality to become an integral component of our training approach in the period preceding the start-up of the installation.
