INEOS is disappointed by today’s court ruling, against the Environment Minister’s decision to allow preparatory works for INEOS Project One to proceed.
There were strong technical reasons justifying the splitting of the application for which we received positive opinions from all the advisory bodies involved. Moreover we provided an outlook on the environmental effects of the construction of the chemical plants.
In addition, we have taken exceptional measures to compensate for the loss of trees, that go well beyond our legal obligations. Moreover, as the very first company in Flanders, INEOS is committed to fully compensate the loss of carbon stock on Flemish territory.
This is a preliminary ruling. We are awaiting the final judgment as to substance. We will now take time to review the Judge’s comments and will address them when submitting our main permit applications for the construction of Project ONE, which will be submitted shortly.
